Hey there, my name is Keith (you can see my ugly mug in the pick) and it’s my pleasure to tell you about my site and all the goodies that are available for all you budding rock stars out there. I have been a guitarist in all sorts of bands for a good few years now, bands like the punk legends and my favorite ‘The Anti-Nowhere League’ and my current band ‘The Last Resort‘ playing our nasty music all over the globe. I have been fortunate enough to have this opportunity thrown at me years ago. If you want to find out more me personally, check out my ‘about page’.
I’m going to be covering all sorts of topics on this site like guitars, amps, strings, picks and even some free guitar playing tips just for good measure. Believe you me, I’m far from perfect and have struggled with bad habits playing the guitar right from the off, but feel I can coach anyone who’s prepared to listen and take on what I’m prepared to teach. With that being said you’ll never stop learning this fantastic instrument, so just try and master your techniques and learn to practice properly and efficiently.
Lesson 1: HOW TO PRACTISE:
Believe it or not, practicing the guitar for me was one of the hardest things to get my head around even though I’d never thought that back in the day….who me? I’m a rockstar lol I’m joking of course. Now, to be a maestro at the guitar you need to have a bit of discipline. Now if you just want to play a few songs and piddle around that’s absolutely fine. But believe you me, if you want to piddle around with tunes ten times quicker, and stop driving everyone bonkers with bum notes and out tune singing, then listen up and take heed of what you’re about to be learning.
(Note: Please, if you have any questions regarding any of the techniques you are about to learn or information about any equipment I review then please don’t hesitate to contact me ‘for free via the contact forms throughout.
This is a must if you want to speed up your quest to master the guitar. Now getting a metronome nowadays is a piece of cake. If you have an IPhone, IPad, smart phone or any kind of tablet that can download apps, you’re already in business. There is one I especially like because it is a speed trainer as well as a metronome. One of my issues with a metronome would be I had to stop playing to change the tempo. Then, I would find myself trying to play a million mile an hour. But with the speed trainer, it increases tempo speed on its own. If you are disciplined then just a normal metronome would be just fine. My favorite app is called ‘Metronome Beats‘ and it’s free….bingo! But unfortunately, this app is not available on the iPhone or IPad. But there are loads of other metronome apps that are available for the iPhone, my favorite being ‘Metro Timer’ again this app is free.
I learned about practicing with a metronome when I purchased a book and cassette (that’s now a cd) called “Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar” you’re probably laughing about the cassette but yes it was a long time ago. The author of that program is a guitarist called ‘Troy Stetina‘. Now he really takes practicing to another level. I think he just about nails everything in his course. I would say for me it is without a doubt, the best guitar training Iv come across. There are amazing guitar videos on YouTube nowadays, but hats of to Troy he nails it in my opinion.
